We are offering Two INTERNSHIPS at Huss Center for Recovery to students enrolled in Master's degree programs that are focused on dual licensure in Alcohol and Drug Counseling and another area of mental health counseling like social work, counseling psychology, integrated behavioral health, etc. This is an unpaid internship. Positions being posted for January/February start and/or Spring and Summer semesters only.

Learning Opportunities:

  • Observe Alcohol & Drug Counselors and Mental Health Practitioners as they provide direct clinical support to clients
  • Work with a diverse population and participate on a multi-disciplinary team that provides individual and group counseling
  • Learn how to prepare reports and documentation for reimbursement of services
  • Observe and conduct diagnostic assessments, learning differential diagnostic skills
  • Co-facilitate psycho-educational groups

Minimum qualifications:

  • Current enrollment in an accredited Master's degree program that combines Alcohol & Drug Counseling with another area of mental health counseling like social work, counseling psychology, integrated behavioral health, etc.
  • Completed coursework in basic counseling skills practice and methods related to individuals with a Serious and Persistent Mental Illness (SPMI) and/or substance use disorder(s)

Preferred Qualifications:

  • Ability to communicate effectively in writing and to prepare written and electronic documents
  • Basic computer skills including use of Microsoft Office and Electronic Health Record (EHR) systems for documentation and record keeping.

Time Commitment

Huss Center for Recovery's programs operate a variety of hours, including 24/7 programs. Depending on the specific site/program, hours and days will vary. Schedule will be determined with supervisor prior to start date.
