The Medical Support Specialist provides support to the organization's primary care/psychiatric providers while promoting whole-person health and well being. As a member of an interdisciplinary team, this role will contribute to an environment of person-centered care and safety through client engagement, assessment, communication and timely documentation. Responsibilities will be to:

  • Obtain and record client vitals and changes in health status, reconciliation of medications and notation of changes
  • Review and coordinate services related to the client psychiatric symptoms survey and well-being assessment
  • Provide administrative support in the areas of prescription refill requests, prior authorizations, and obtaining external medical records
  • Document interactions with clients into organization's Electronic Health Record (EHR) while providing clear and concise communication with client, and staff
  • Respond to inquiries made by telephone, email and/or in-person about services and resources, and provide coverage to the front desk operations including assistance with scheduling psychiatric appointments
  • Effectively interact and exhibit behavior that is consistent with customer service and professional standards established by the organization
  • Partner with key program staff to develop and refine the efficiency and positive outcome for each client that interacts with us
  • Provide crisis intervention and de-escalation for clients experiencing mental health symptoms or other emotional responses while prioritizing client and program safety
  • Develops and maintains quality measure reports and spreadsheets

Required qualifications:

  • Associates of Arts degree in a behavioral sciences field


  • Graduate of a Certified Medical Assistant program from an accredited vocational institution or community college


  • Certification as a Community Health Worker (through Minnesota State Colleges & Universities)

Preferred qualifications:

  • Bachelor's degree
  • National Certification as a registered medical assistant
  • One year of experience as a medical assistant
  • Experience working with individuals diagnosed with a mental illness
