Our Assertive Community Treatment (ACT) program has an open position for a full-time Mental Health Practitioner II. ACT assists long-term homeless adults who have a serious and persistent mental illness. Our clients are referred to the program from staff at shelters by People Incorporated's street outreach team, other outreach workers in Hennepin County, and community agencies.

Hours for the position are Monday - Friday, for 40 hours starting and ending between 8:00am - 8:00pm.

The Mental Health Practitioner II - Vocational Specialist - is one team member of nine serving a caseload of approximately 50 clients with serious and persistent mental illness (SPMI) and dual disorders (MI/CD) that are homeless. Each team member has a caseload of approximately 10 primary clients but the staff person must be familiar with and available to all the clients. The Vocational Specialist takes the lead on vocational issues for the team's consumers, including assessment, planning, job development, placement, coaching, and support. Responsibilities include:

  • Serves as the team's liaison with vocational rehabilitation counselors
  • Provides training to the team's staff to help them gain competency in the evidence-based practice of supported employment
  • Works with individuals regarding job readiness, resume writing and job-seeking through community resources
  • Assures that vocational assessment is an ongoing process based on work experiences in competitive jobs that have a more permanent status rather than temporary or time-limited status

Required qualifications:


  • Master's degree in social services


  • Bachelor's degree in social services
  • 4,000 hours of supervised experience in the delivery of services to people with serious and persistent mental illness

Preferred qualifications:

  • 6,000 hours of Case Management experience
  • Experience working with adults diagnosed with serious and persistent mental illness
  • Field/mobile unit experience
