We are offering an INTERNSHIP/PRACTICUM in Outpatient Mental Health Services to graduate students enrolled in a master's level program in Psychology, Social Work, Professional Counseling or Marriage & Family Therapy. People Incorporated has three Outpatient Mental Health sites: Stark Mental Health Center in Minneapolis, Northside Mental Health Center in Minneapolis, and Family Life Mental Health Center in Coon Rapids. This is an unpaid internship.

Learning Opportunities:

  • Observe and perform diagnostic assessments, psychotherapy sessions, group therapy, and family and/or couples therapy
  • Learn how to work with a diverse population and how to participate on a multi-disciplinary team in providing person-centered treatment
  • Develop proficiency in clinical documentation including progress notes, report preparation and completing assessments
  • Attend training seminars, clinical consult meetings, staff meetings, and weekly supervision

Minimum Qualifications:

  • Current registration in an accredited Master's degree program in Psychology, Social Work, Professional Counseling or Marriage & Family Therapy
  • Completed coursework in clinical diagnosing
  • Knowledge and basic skills in counseling practices and methods related to individuals with a Serious and Persistent Mental Illness (SPMI) and/or substance use disorder(s)

Preferred Qualifications:

  • Ability to communicate effectively in writing and to prepare written and electronic documents
  • Basic computer skills including use of Microsoft Office and Electronic Health Record (EHR) systems for documentation and record keeping.

Time Commitment:

The Outpatient Mental Health clinics are opens days M-F. Some evening hours may be available. Schedule will be determined with supervisor.
