A mental health practitioner for a child recipient must have training working with children. People Incorporated Mental Health Services helps children, teens and families overcome emotional problems and situational barriers in order to improve their lives and family relationships. Our Day Treatment program in Golden Valley is searching for full-time Mental Health Worker II - Social Skills Workers. We aim to help children develop age-appropriate coping skills, decrease aggression and/or self-defeating behaviors, improve family support systems, develop positive relationships with adults and peers, and improve functioning in the home, school, and community. We provide three hours of programming for two groups of students, ages 5-11 and 12-18, five days a week. Within the three hours are one hour of group therapy and two hours of skills training.

Typical hours for this position are 7:30am - 4:00pm, Monday - Friday.  We currently have a position open in the 5-11 age group.

The Social Skills Specialist plans and leads daily social skills groups and will be responsible for:

  • Actively participating in skill building activities and developing positive relationships with clients
  • Ensuring safe and responsible behavior of the clients by using verbal redirection, proximity management, and positive encouragement
  • Providing behavior management support to clients
  • Performing physical restraints or holds of clients as necessary
  • Completing clinical documentation

Required qualifications:

  • All mental health practitioners for a children recipients must have training working with children

AND EITHER

  • High School Diploma
  • 6,000 hours experience in the delivery of mental health services supervised by a licensed mental health professional (LP, LMFT, LPCC, LICSW)

OR

  • Bachelor's degree in behavior science or a related field
  • 2,000 hours experience in the delivery of mental health services supervised by a licensed mental health professional (LP, LMFT, LPCC, LICSW)

OR

  • Masters degree in behavior science or a related field

Preferred qualifications:

  • Experience working with children with mental illness and/or severe emotional and behavioral disturbances
  • Experience leading groups and developing curriculum
