Nancy Page Crisis Residence provides residential mental health crisis stabilization services to adults with mental illness, who may also have other behavioral problems and/or chemical abuse/dependency issues. Primary treatment occurs both internally and externally with specialized services provided by community and program professionals.

The Assertive Community Treatment (ACT) team has an open position for a full-time Certified Peer Support Specialist II. Our ACT program assists long-term homeless adults who have a serious and persistent mental illness. Our clients are referred to the program from staff at shelters by People Incorporated's street outreach team, other outreach workers in Hennepin County, and community agencies.  The certified peer support specialist is one team member of 14 serving a caseload of approximately 80 clients with serious and persistent mental illness (SPMI) and dual disorders (MI/CD) that are homeless.  Each team member has a caseload of approximately 10 primary clients (certified peers may have a range of 2-4 primary clients on their caseload) but the staff person must be familiar with and available to all the clients. This position is mobile and visits with clients are primarily in the community.  Duties include:

  • Actively participate in all team meetings and promote a recovery perspective as a key component of all discussions with all members of the team
  • Model a recovery approach and demonstrate coping skills
  • Support our clients with skill development training in socialization, problem solving, self-awareness, and awareness of others
  • Facilitate the development of recovery skills including mental / chemical health management
  • Provide opportunities for recipients receiving services to direct their own recovery process
  • Demonstrate cultural sensitivity and competence relevant to the needs of the recipients in recovery
  • Provide instruction, modeling and feedback in the area of supportive living skills
  • Role model completion of chores and involve clients

Hours for the position are Tuesday - Saturday, for 40 hours starting and ending hours ranging between 8:00am - 7:00pm.

Required Qualifications:

  • Certification as a Certified Peer Specialist or a Peer Recovery Specialist
  • Current and valid Minnesota Driver's License and auto insurance with a clean driving record

AND EITHER

  • High School Diploma/GED
  • 6,000 hours supervised experience in the delivery of services to people with mental illness

OR

  • Bachelor's degree in human services
  • 2,000 hours supervised experience in the delivery of services to people with mental illness
